Due to stock shortages at the time decisions were made to Temporarily Reinstate Unit 1698. From Monday 15th August unit 1698 was placed onto a self-contained diagram (with two 4 VEP units) just working the 06.38 Ashford to Cannon St and then back in the evening departing at 18.04 having stabled at Grove Park during the day. Unit 1698 stands at London Victoria after working the 18.59 Ashford International to Victoria via Maidstone East. The driver will prepare 1698 for it's last ever mainline passenger service to Faversham departing at 20.41. 1698 will then run Empty from Faversham to Ramsgate 'The Home of many CEP's for 47 years' and once again put back into store.
