FEATURE 01 - COLUMN REPLACEMENT, AVERY HILL RD, NEW ELTHAM, LONDON SE9...
The old concrete lighting columns in Avery Hill Road, New Eltham, London SE9, were the oldest Group A main road concrete columns to survive within the whole of the London Borough of Greenwich council area, dating back to the early 1950's. The type of column used for the Avery Hill Road installation was the 'Avenue 3D' from Concrete Utilities, sporting the largest of the 'Arc 2' brackets, a combination that had previously been installed in other main roads within the Eltham area but having long since been removed. Early August 2006 saw the start of new Corus 10 metre steel columns being erected by the side of every C.U. Avenue column, by the middle of October all the new columns were all up and running with new Industria Arc lanterns attached leaving only the removal of the decomissioned concrete columns to be done. The old concrete column removal was all completed within a few weeks leaving just 2 old columns still with working lanterns on the junction to Halfway Street, which surprisingly survived till May 2007...
